Bible Note: Greetings Ray! I think what Steve is referring to is that the verb "He was giving" is in the third person, but there is no separate pronoun in the Greek text. It is included in the verb itself. Every Greek verb has several forms. They are: 1st Singular: I gave 2nd Singular: You gave 3rd Singular: He gave 1st Plural: We gave 2nd Plural: You gave 3rd Plural: They gave So, in Mark 6:7, it would be perfectly legitimate to translate it: "And He summoned the twelve and began to send them out in pairs and gave them authority over unclean spirits." As opposed to spelling it all out very literally by translating it as: "And He summoned the twelve and He began to send them out in pairs and He gave them authority over unclean spirits." Either translation is correct, but the first is much smoother and more in line with how we actually speak. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
