Bible Question: Why were the jews so hungry in john 6 |
Bible Answer: Greetings TYC_Production, Mark 6:31 tells us that "many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat." But Jesus, even though He was saddened by the news of John the Baptist (Matt. 14:12), "had compassion on them and healed their sick." Jesus spent all afternoon teaching them about the kingdom of God (Luke 9:11; Mark 6:34). Then evening came, "Now when it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a desolate place, and the day is now over; send the crowds away to go into the villages and buy food for themselves." But Jesus said, "They need not go away; you give them something to eat." Jesus and His disciples acknowledged and recognized that the crowd was hungry, since the "hour is now late" (Mark 6:35) and "the day began to wear away" (Luke 9:12). But as it turned out, Jesus already had in mind what He was going to do (John 6:6), and He used this moment not only to feed the people, but to teach His disciples something about Him, and something about faith (Mark 6:37-44), since His disciples said to Him, "Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give it to them to eat?" The crowd was there because of Jesus (Mark 6:33-34), and they would hang on His every word despite being hungry. But Jesus had food to eat that His disciples had no knowledge of (John 4:32).
