NASB | Mark 6:3 "Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? Are not His sisters here with us?" And they took offense at Him. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Mark 6:3 "Is this not the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? Are His sisters not here with us?" And they were [deeply] offended by Him [and their disapproval blinded them to the fact that He was anointed by God as the Messiah]. |
Bible Question: Who were Jesus' half brothers and half sisters? Can you give me the Book and the verses? |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Psa 69:8 ; Mat 12:46, 13:55; Mar 6:3; Joh 2:12; Act 1:14; 1Co 9:5; Col 4:10 ... dennymca, greetings, The word for brother (adelphos) sister is (adelphe) ... and cousin (anepsios) and used in the NT (Col 4:10). This is important because some claim Mary didn't have any other children. James (probably the author of the book of James), Joseph, Simon and Judas were children of Joseph and Mary, half-brothers of Jesus, based on Matthew 13:55 and Mark 6:3. His brothers are unnamed in Matthew 12:46, John 2:12 and Acts 1:14. His sisters are never named. One could cite another passage (1 Cor 9:5). The word used is for brother is adelphos, and adelphe is the word for sister, in each case. Also Psalm 69:8 shows that He had brothers. Hope this helps, Seracher |
