AMPLIFIED 2015 | Mark 5:13 Jesus gave them permission. And the unclean spirits came out [of the man] and entered the pigs. The herd, numbering about two thousand, rushed down the steep bank into the sea; and they were drowned [one after the other] in the sea. |
Bible Question: O.K. Here is something that I always wondered about. It has always bothered me in some ways. I was reading other posts and was reminded of it but didn't see an answer so here goes. We all know the passage where Jesus comes upon the man that is possesed by demons and they recognize him and ask him not to cast them out but to instead let them go into the swine. (Don't have the bible in front of me right now to get exact passage) Jesus then let's them go into the swine where they run down the hill and die. Why does Jesus even give them what they want in the first place? What happens after the swine die? Are they then able to posses someone else? In this case many others. So why does Jesus let them do that? Why have mercy (so to speak) on demons? Demons that are trying to turn everyone against God? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Eascusa, "And at once Jesus gave them permission" Why did Jesus allow this? Why didn’t Jesus just put these unclean spirits out of commission? Because the time of the total demonstration of His authority over demons had not yet come - it would come at the cross. Colossians 2:15 tells us that at the cross Jesus disarmed demons in their attacks on believers, He made a public spectacle of their defeat, and He triumphed over them in His work on the cross.
