Bible Question: I was always under the impression that Catholics donate; that it's not called tithing. I am currently discussing this my life long friend. We went to Catholic Schools together. I don't know why she is now calling her church donations tithing. Can you help me find this in the New Testament? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Descombobulation! "Tithing" is spoken of by Jesus in the NT: Matthew 23:23; Luke 11:42; Luke 18:12; and is spoke of elsewhere, in Hebrews 7:8-9.. In those occurrences where Jesus spoke of tithing, He never suggested that tithing was simply a "donation", even though I believe that "donating" our resources to the Church is part of tithing. I do believe that Catholics still tithe, and call the practice "tithing", although I could be wrong. P.S. I like your Username.. :-) Blessings to you, Maraxus (Just kidding, Makarios) :-) |
