Bible Question: I need some bible verses to read to help me better myself. I pray for my children, husban, family members and etc... all the time. It time I start to pray for my self. But I do not really know how. Can you help me? |
Bible Answer: Jesus gave many examples of how we should pray... when I pray for myself I include the prayer from Matthew 6. (known as The Lord's Prayer) Jesus assures us in v.8 that the Father already knows what we need before we ask. v.5 "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. v.6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. v.7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. v.9 "This, then, is how you should pray:" 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, v.10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in eaven. v.11 Give us today our daily bread. v.12 Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. v.13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. ' v.14 For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. v.15 But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. also the Lord used this parable as an example of how we should pray From Luke 18 v.9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable: v.10 "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. v.11 The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men--robbers, evildoers, adulterers--or even like this tax collector. v.12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.' v.13 "But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.' v.14 "I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." These are things that I keep in mind when I pray for myself. -khuck |
