NASB | Mark 10:21 Looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him and said to him, "One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Mark 10:21 Looking at him, Jesus felt a love (high regard, compassion) for him, and He said to him, "You lack one thing: go and sell all your property and give [the money] to the poor, and you will have [abundant] treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me [becoming My disciple, believing and trusting in Me and walking the same path of life that I walk]." |
Bible Question: The King James version, after "you will have treasure in heaven", adds: "pick up the cross, and come follow me." Why is this phrase not in the NASB, or any other english translation? |
Bible Answer: Hi Santaanacanyon, Can I call you Santa or Anna or something else a little easier to write? :o)) The translations used varying manuscripts and some do not have in them, "having taken up the cross." But the phrase of importance of "and come follow Me" is found in the NASB. 1) This passage in Mark is before the cross, so I would be prone to seeing "having taken up the cross" to be a later addition to the text. 2) Our treasure is not in bearing a cross, but rather is found in following Him.
