Subject: Jesus is God |
Bible Note: This verse in Mark is an obvious reference to Jesus. Matt. 3:3 says, “For this is the one referred to by Isaiah the prophet when he said, "THE VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS, 'MAKE READY THE WAY OF THE LORD, MAKE HIS PATHS STRAIGHT!'"” Isaiah was referring to John the Baptist when he prophesied that someone would prepare a way for the LORD. John was sent to make a path ready for the Lord. Now, this is a quote from Isa. 40:3, and the word “Lord” is translated from the proper name of God, YHWH, Jehovah. So here the way is being made for Jesus who is Jehovah, the Lord God. It’s clear in the context of Isaiah that the way is being made for God, but we might miss that when we read it here in the Gospels. A certain group of Witnesses do. |
