AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 8:28 ¶ When He arrived at the other side in the country of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming out of the tombs met Him. They were so extremely fierce and violent that no one could pass by that way. [Mark 5:1-17; Luke 8:26-37] |
Bible Question: Luke said it was one man under the control of Leigon. Yet in this passage it is 2 men Where does the difference come from? |
Bible Answer: Greetings lbrindly! The most likely answer is that there were in fact two men, but Mark and Luke only write about one. I recently watched a documentary which detailed the experiences of one particular fireman during the attack on the World Trade Center Towers. Would it be correct to say on the basis of that documentary that only one fireman was effected by the attack? Would it be correct to say that the documentary was in error because it did not specifically detail every event which occured to every fireman? Of course not! Mark and Luke simply condensed the story and told the story of one man, while Matthew left the detail in that two men were involved. This happens several times in the Gospel accounts. I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
