NASB | Matthew 8:12 but the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 8:12 while the sons and heirs of the kingdom [the descendants of Abraham who will not recognize Me as Messiah] will be thrown out into the outer darkness; in that place [which is farthest removed from the kingdom] there will be weeping [in sorrow and pain] and grinding of teeth [in distress and anger]." [Ps 107:2, 3; Is 49:12; 59:19; Mal 1:11] |
Bible Question: What is this outer darkness into which some will be cast? How does it relate to the lake of fire into which all the unrighteous go? Does it relate to where the wicked angels are held, waiting for judgment? |
Bible Answer: A truly interesting question. My inpression of this verse is that the term "outer" may have something to do with being "outside" of Christ's millennial kingdom (the New Jerusalem) during Christ's millennial reign (or possibly also sometime thereafter). One might ask how "outer" darkness is differentiated from simply darkness. |
