Bible Note: The right way to pray a. The right kind of prayer does not use vain repetition, which is any and every praying which is all words and no meaning, all lips and no mind or heart. i. The Rabbis had sayings like: "Whoever is long in prayer is heard" and "Whenever the righteous make their prayer long, their prayer is heard." ii. One famous Jewish prayer began: "Blessed, praised, and glorified, exalted, and honored, magnified and lauded be the name of the Holy One" iii. When we try to impress God with our many words, we deny who God is: a loving, yet holy Father; instead, we should follow the counsel of Ecclesiastes 5:2: God is in heaven, and you are on earth; therefore let your words be few. "Therefore, my brothers, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues. But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way." 1Corinthians 14:39-40 (NIV). God bless |
