Bible Note: We must not be proud in prayer, nor aim at the praise of men.This was the way and practice of the hypocrites. In all their exercises of devotion, it was plain, that their primary purpose was to be commended by their neighbors. The will of Jesus Christ is in opposition to this. Humility and sincerity are the two great lessons that Christ teaches us; when thou prayest, do so (v. 6); in particular by yourself, and for yourself. Personal prayer is to be the duty and practice of all Christ’s disciples. I shall remember you in my prayers. Tim |
