Bible Question: What is Jesus saying in this phrase, And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our detors |
Bible Answer: Hi, FMI... Welcome to the forum! Sin against the Lord has created an incredible indebtedness. Those who have been magnanimously and magnificently forgiven, find it easy to forgive the puny little sins committed against themselves by other people. Christ is calling on us to acknowledge our indebtedness to the Lord (Luke 10:18-14) and the requirement that we reflect that kind of generous forgiveness to others (Matthew 6:14). Furthermore, a person made right with God through the grace and mercy attained through Christ, is also a person that seeks being right with other people (Ephesians 2:15-17; cf Matthew 18:21-27).
