Bible Question: what does matthew 6:10 mean |
Bible Answer: Dear braiden, Welcome to the forum and thank you for the question. As you know, it is a part of Jesus' teaching to His disciples on how to pray. We call it "the Lord's Prayer". Let me try to share my thought with you. If you read it again and again, you will get the idea that it is very much God-centred in all aspects (His kingdom, His will, His sovereignty, His protection, His provision). As believer, we have to always bear in mind God's kingdom and will though we live our lives in this physical world which is so much rotten. V10 draws our plea for Jesus's second coming on one hand, and on the other, during this "waiting period" (in the situation that God's kingdom has come but yet to be completed in Jesus's second coming), we set our hope on God to exercise and effectuate His will. As a citizen of God's kingdom, we of course acknowledge His sovereignty, we should be zealous about God's will to be accomplished and be obedient and feel honour to be part of His tool in it for we TRUST, BELIEVE AND KNOW God's Will is for His glory and the good of His People. That is why we are taught to pray like that. (note also V13b) Hope my wordings are not so cumbersome for you to understand :-) By the way, I love this prayer very much. I join a liturgical church where we recite this beautiful prayer every Sunday and I enjoy praying it for it really guides me to focus my thought on God and convicts myself of failing to bear in mind the hallowed name of God in my daily live.
