Bible Question: What is fasting and do we still need to do it. |
Bible Answer: Matthew 6:17-18 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Fasting is abstaining form anything you love or need and replacing it with God. Many people think of fasting as not eating but it's not just that. You can fast from anything from eating to listening to non-christian music. You stop doing these things and duriong the time you would normally be listening to music or eating you would spend the time with God in prayer, worship, or Bible study. The passage above talks of fasting as a commandment. It says to fast in private. In other words, don't go out telling everyone you are fasting so everyone will be pruod of you. Do in private for God, because God see's the hidden works you do. As i said above, this passage talks about fasting as if it is a commandment. It says "when you fast," not if you fast. So yes, fasting is still needed in out daily lives. Remember, before you fats be sure to pray about it and let God tell you what to fast from. In Christ Dave |
