Bible Note: Thank you again, Emmaus! Very interesting. I have never actually heard any kind of "parallelism" taught on this passage. It may have only been that theee were the most obvious activities in which the Pharisees tried to gain recognition. Alternatively, Matthew tended to group teachings together, with less concern for chronology in the way we moderns prefer. Neverhteless, I am not fully comfortable with either suggestion.
