Bible Note: Thank you Searcher, for the correction of my blunder. Yes, it was the multitudes that flocked to Jesus, but the Pharisees are not mentioned here. Actually I should have wrote that Jesus was speaking 'of' the Pharisees, and not 'to' them. The only standard of righteousness that the Jews would have known about during that time was the standard that was being taught by the Scribes and Pharisees. The foremost question in the mind of the Jews of the day would likely have been, "Am I righteous enough to enter God's kingdom?' Jesus was answering the question, and correcting the current teaching of the religious leaders, who may or may not have been actually present. Good eye, Searcher. I stand corrected. keliy |
