Bible Question: What are some biblical references pertaining to people taking other people to court and suing them (as in after a car accident)? I have heard of many opinions about it, including the fact that accepting the money from suing someone is wrong, as it was gotten in unGodly ways. |
Bible Answer: Personally, I feel that it depends on if the suit is moral or immoral...if you sue McDonalds for spilling hot coffee on your lap or for your child being overweight, how moral are you being by not being acountable for your own actions? On the other hand, if you sue an institution for not allowing you or others to have and/or practice their constitutional rights (say...freedom of religion) then maybe you are taking a stand for liberties that are moral and just and would be in God's good graces for helping or defending His people. I don't know if there is anything specific in the Bible about lawsuits and I do know that God says "Vengence is Mine" So you could make the argument that a lawsuit is a way to get redemption instead of leaving vengence or punishment to God...However, we are also taught to obey man's law...and I believe as God hardened Pharoah's heart to do His Own Will that He will also do work for His Own Will in a court of law! |
