AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 5:37 "But let your statement be, 'Yes, yes' or 'No, no' [a firm yes or no]; anything more than that comes from the evil one. [Lev 19:12; Num 30:2; Deut 23:21] |
Bible Question: Which verse in the Bible says that God always gives his answer with a yes or a no and that anything else comes from Satan (or evil, I can't remember)? I would much like to know. If it's any help, I'm kind of sure the verse is found the Books of the Law (though I'm not 100 percent sure). Thanks to all. |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Matt 5:33-37 .................... It deals with taking an oath. It is in the NT only. Oath in the OT includes: You shall not swear falsely by My name, so as to profane the name of your God; I am the LORD (Lev 19:12). If a man makes a vow to the LORD, or takes an oath to bind himself with a binding obligation, he shall not violate his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth (Num 30:2). When you make a vow to the LORD your God, you shall not delay to pay it, for it would be sin in you, and the LORD your God will surely require it of you (Deu 23:21). |
