Bible Question: Jesus said blessed are the poor in spirit: for yours is the kingdom of heaven! What does it really mean to be poor in spirit? |
Bible Answer: Hi humility, To be poor in spirit means that one would be unlikely to brag about himself, or to make a vain display of one's own worth, or accomplishments. We are to acknowledge in our hearts that all we can acccomplish, we only accomplish through our Lord and there is nothing we can do without Him. He is the giver of life, He is our source of energy, the fountain of knowledge, and of wisdom. No skills or talents we possess come entirely from within ourselves, but from above. So from the word 'go', there is nothing that we are able to do that can be claimed for ourselves. Those who are poor in spirit are conscious of their dependance on God, and realize that they are unable to please God using their own abilities. On the other hand, we have a wealth of resources in Jesus Christ and we can do all things through Him as He gives us our strength. (Phi 4:13) God Bless, keliy |
