Bible Question: What versus would anyone suggest to learn and use in my daily struggle with lusting for a woman |
Bible Answer: I don't think there is a 'special' verse that is going to 'magically' remove all the lustful thoughts in your mind. The only thing I can tell you is this: Don't concentrate on conquering sin - it has been conquered for you already. When Jesus said "It is finished" - He meant it. Sin has been defeated and you are free. Accept that as reality. You have been crucified with Christ. It doesn't make sense to keep praying "God help me to beat this thing" - when it has already been defeated. You see, God's problem is not with sin - it is with people not knowing His Son. Concentrate on getting to know Jesus more. Read the Word, spend time in prayer and, just as importantly, SHARE YOUR FAITH!!! Be active in your pursuit of God (The Pursuit of God by AW Tozer is an excellent book by the way) and your relationship with Him. Here is a practical application for you. Recently I took up downhill mountain biking. Now, when I first started, my tendancy was to look where I didn't want to go and you know where I would end up? Exactly where I was looking. Unfortunately for me that was usually down the side of a steep embankment - ouch! I quickly learned that if I wanted to stay alive and healthy while pursuing this activity, I needed to train my eyes on the place where I wanted to go - like the path in front of me - not the cliff beside me. Once I started doing this I fell less and less. Now, I still fell and still do sometimes but it's getting less and less. Get my point? Also, keep in mind that you are a work in progress. This is no excuse to sin but just keep things in perspective. Your heart is obviously in the right place as you don't want to lust - just pursue your relationship with God - the rest will take care of itself. God has already blessed you. |
