Bible Question: What versus would anyone suggest to learn and use in my daily struggle with lusting for a woman |
Bible Answer: Greetings Steve, There are many Bible verses that I could point out that deal with lust.. One of the most popular is Matthew 5:28, where Jesus speaks about how looking at a woman with lust is committing adultery in the heart.. Every man has to face this temptation, including King David (2 Sam. 11:1-27). But not every man has to fall prey and give in to it, as David did. Avoiding lust requires discipline (Job 31:1), since it is a "crime" (Job 31:11). Giving in to lust reduces a man to a "loaf of bread" (Proverbs 6:25-26).. You are simply "playing with fire" with your soul when you lust after a woman (Proverbs 6:27-29). We, as Christians are not to be so, having lust on our minds! Such sin reduces us to animals, and we lose any spiritual footing that we may have had before. Men, in particular, are easily led astray by this sin, and it has led to adultery that has ravaged the church.. Since we are bought with the redeeming blood of Christ, we are not slaves to lust (Romans 7:5). "But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts." Romans 13:14 As Christians, we can overcome the sin of lust (Galatians 5:16,24). We can overcome the sin of lust by continuing to walk by the Spirit, and to continually purify our hearts and minds by drawing near to God (James 4:8). Lust is a form of idolatry, only idolatry towards a woman. But we must consider our bodies (and minds) as "dead" to idolatry (Colossians 3:5). We must abstain from lust (1 Peter 2:11, 1 John 2:16), and keep ourselves pure (Rev. 14:4). Keep your eyes on the Lord Jesus Christ, and He will keep you from stumbling and make you blameless in His sight (Jude 24). Blessings to you, Makarios |
