Bible Answer: History.................................... Greetings Wodke! The fish symbol was used by early Christians to identify one another. It is an acrostic based upon the Greek word for fish - 'ichthus'. i - Jesus ch - Christ th - God's u - Son s - Savior Early believers would mark the symbol of the fish in the dirt and other believers would respond in kind.
