Bible Question: Hi, I'm part of a youth group and this week we're focusing on service to God. I was just wondering if anyone can help and suggest some passages in the Bible that relate to service? Thanks! |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Rom 12:1-15:14 ... rdecast, Worship and serving are connected. The word for worship is from shachah (Hebrew), c@gid (Aramaic) and proskuneo (Greek). The word for serve or service is abad (Hebrew) and latreuo and latreia (Greek). Whenever shachah and abad are used together, the latter is always translated serve. The same is true for the Greek counterparts. However, when abad, latreuo or latreia are used alone, sometimes they are translated worship. I see it should be service, including Romans 12:1. Most of the rest of the book is about service; a second point that lateria should be service. Matthew 4:10 is one passage that links worship and serving. Worship is being prostrate before the Lord, who has absolute rule over us. Our focus is only on Him. Hope this helps, Searcher |
