Bible Answer: Dear Menance, When a fig tree contains full branches, it generally bears fruit. Thus, when Christ encountered a fully leafed out fig tree, He would have quite rightly expected fruit to be hanging from its branches. However on closer examination, it became obvious that it had no fruit. Thus, it gave all the signs of bearing fruit, while failing altogether to do so. In a like manner, Israel filled out its branches, giving the appearance of the availability of great fruit.
