Bible Question:  First I would like to thank tim moran for answering my questions but there is one thing I forgot to ask him in Matthew 28 it says that when the women were going to tell his disciples that he has risen it says that as they ran Jesus appeared to them and in John it says that marry saw Jesus when she returned to the tomb. onewaytriple7

Bible Answer:  Greetings Onewaytriple7!

Allow me to repost my graphical illustration in order to address your question.

***********************

Here is my attempt to graphically illustate this point.

A) The first trip to the tomb.

B) The first encounter with the angels.

C) The trip back to tell the disicples.

D) Peter and John's trip to the tomb.

E) The second encounter with the angels.

F) Jesus appears to the women.

G) The second trip back to tell the disiciples.

Using these letters to graphically illustrate the chronology:

John includes: A, C, D, E, F, G.

Luke includes: A, B C, D, G.

Mark includes: A, B, C (in the short ending), G (in the long ending)

Matthew includes: A, B, C, F, G.

***********************

So, to answer your question, Mt. 28:9 doesn't say that Jesus appeared to them 'while they ran'. It simply says, 'behold Jesus appeared'. There is no time reference given.

Now, it would be natural, if we only had Matthew's account, to assume that He appeared to them on the first trip back to see the disciples. However, we also have John's fuller account, which makes it clear that Jesus appeared to them on the second trip.

So, it seems that Matthew has skipped over D and E, and gone immediately to F - for whatever reason.

I hope this helps!

Your Brother in Christ,

Tim Moran
