Bible Question: if angels have no gender why do they have such female features |
Bible Answer: Hi, L Smith! Angels are spiritual beings and Jesus did not fix them into any type of form--He simply stated that in Heaven, we will be like angels not marrying onto each other: Jesus replied, "You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. (Matthew 22:29-30) When Jesus was transformed He was seen by the disciples speaking with Moses and Elijah (both either dead or trancended into Heaven): The Transfiguration After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus. Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters--one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah." While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!" When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified. But Jesus came and touched them. "Get up," he said. "Don't be afraid." When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus. (Matthew 17:1-8) Since they did not have cameras nor any other graphic depiction of Moses and Elijah, we must understand that Peter spoke while being moved by the Holy Spirit... instantaneously, he recognized Moses and Elijah as the two persons speaking with Jesus... there was no hesitation in him as he offered to build the shelters for them: Moses and Elijah, though permanent residents of Heaven, were male in appearance... their spiritual beings did not reflect female features nor a dual unisexual existence! Further, when we read the Old Testament we find that many times angels visited the elect people of God in the form of human males. True they are often spoken as possessing awesome beauty, but this in itself is to give us a tiny sample of what we will find in Heaven: a plethora of purity and beauty. God Bless! Angel |
