Bible Question: What was the Law forbidding putting blood money back into the temple treasury? Cite Scripture. |
Bible Answer: Greetings Steve! I was not able to find any specific passage that addresses blood money and the temple. However, Edersheim makes the following comment in his book, "The Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah": "Their unscrupulous scrupulosity came again upon them. It was not lawful to take into the Temple-treasury, for the purchase of sacred things, money that had been unlawfully gained. In such cases the Jewish Law provided that they money was to be restored to the donor, and, if he insisited on giving it, that he should be induced to spend it for something for the pubic weal." (Part II, Book V, pg. 575) Apparently, this custom was part of the rules and regulations added to the Law by the Jewish leaders. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
