Subject: The Old Rugged Cross |
Bible Note: Dear Vehoka - Perhaps a new day will have dawned by the time you read this post, and it is hoped that the hostilites you spoke of in your post have been swept away. The posts that apparently triggered your hostile feelings were on a topic that is indeed volatile: false teachers in general and the Word-Faith Movement in particular. It is never pleasant for me, or for any other Christian, to deal with so ugly and ignominious a thing as this pandemic scourge of heresy and blasphemy with which the Word-Faith Movement engineers are infecting the church. So strongly do I believe that this runaway train must be derailed that my words on this subject may seem at first blush harsh and unloving. But there are vital issues involving Christianity, and this is one of them, that must be met with candid speech, firm resolve, and stalwart determination. In my lifetime (I am 68), I have seen two black storm clouds loom over the church of our Lord. The first was creeping secular humanism that came in on such soft feet that no one noticed it very much until it had sunk its evil fangs firmly into the jugular vein of many unsuspecting congregations, sapping them of their life blood like the fabled vampire attacks its prey. Now comes the Word-Faith Movement. Far too few Christians know much if anything at all about it. Like secular humanism, it looks harmless enough on the surface. What's wrong with asking God for health and prosperty? What's the big deal about where Jesus went after He died on the cross? But when one digs below the thin outward skin of Word-Faith, he uncovers the dark ugliness that lies hidden beneath the respectable appearing veneer. ..... So, to close. Vehoka, dear sister in Christ, it is far from my wishes to engender in you feelings of hostility, but it is most assuredly my hope, my wish, my prayer, that you and all true followers of Christ would rise in strong and vocal opposition to the heresies and cults that are prolifering at an alarming rate and lend your prayers, your presence, and your efforts to lead people away from these false doctrines and show them the way to Christ. May God richly bless you. --Hank |
