Bible Question: Why was simon ask 2 carry th cross |
Bible Answer: Hello jily, Matt 27:32 "As they were coming out, they found a man of Cyrene named Simon, whom they pressed into service to bear His cross." (NASB) Scripture doesn't specifically tell us "why" Simon was asked. However, the word used (Gr. eggareusan) suggests that he was "forced" or "compelled" to do so. Robertson notes,... "So the soldiers treat Simon of Cyrene (a town of Libya) as a Persian courier [aggaros] and impress him into service, probably because Jesus was showing signs of physical weakness in bearing his own Cross as the victims had to do,..." [A.T. Robertson, Word Pictures in the New Testament] I hope this helps, BradK |
