Bible Question: My question regards Communion. Who can participate? Who is authorized to give communion? Tell me where the answers are substantiated in the Bible. |
Bible Answer: JimCar: You have asked a very important question. I can give you a very bias pritestant view, as the Locknam is representative of evangelical position. I am in no way saying I represent Lockman, let me make that abundantly clear. I do have a M Div. and a MARS degree fron a Baptist Theological Seminary. I am retired, and can give you my perspective from my understanding of Scripture. Ok? Protestants DO NOT believe that the bread and cup turn into the actual flesh and blood of Christ as Catholics do. We do not believe in Sacrements as Catholics do. These are major and important differences, and not to be taken lightly. Many protestants do not believe in infant baptism, but some do, mainly what I call higher churchs, ones that have a higharchy type of leadership Baptism, Marriage, Communion, Ordination for Ministry by laying hands on and praying, Anointing the sick, and Foot Washing are what some would call Ordinances. Some would leave off foot washing, or anointing the sick. Commuinon is for those who have made Christ Lord, and been Baptized. Generally in a church setting the Pastor or Eldres, or Deacons administer the Bread and Cup. However there is nothing that says you can't have communion as a family with you or anyone who is a genuine Christian from doing the communion. Bible Study groups, Christian camps. and many different groups have celebrated this special Rememberance of our Lord Jesus Christ. I sincerely hope this helps you in growing in the Lord. Any thoughts or questions. |
