AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 26:25 And Judas, the betrayer, said, "Surely it is not I, Rabbi?" Jesus said to him, "You have said it yourself." |
Bible Question:
What did Jesus mean by, "You have said it yourself?" Judas is "hiding" the intent of his heart. Did he know Who he was hiding from? Who did he fool? Do we do the same when we are confronted with Truth? Does this relate to Romans 10:8 "THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART"-? |
Bible Answer: Mommapbs Absolutely Judas knew in his heart what he was trying to hide. Yes we do it all the time. Like Judas we go through a process of self justification. Judas was after the money but he justified his action by telling himself his action would force Jesus’ hand. That Jesus would then seize His worldly kingdom and drive these Roman invaders from the land. However this was all a cover up to the fact he would betray the Son of God for thirty pieces of silver. As I said we do it all the time, we justify our actions, declaring we have a right. I just responded to a question on tithing in another thread. This is a perfect example, people put their trust money instead of God. Then when asked to give they have all kinds of justification for what they do next. Some declare church and ministry a sham and give nothing. Others declare that tithing was OT law from which we are free and give less than they should. Still others give legalistically giving only 10 percent down to the penny. Then there are those that give but still never completely trusting in God. Others give expecting to get back. Then there are those that let money flow through them trusting only in God. God doesn’t need our money and if He desired he could provide more than sufficiently for His churches. However I think God wants us to confront what we have allowed to become important in our lives. So He asks us to give. God knows our hearts, just as He did Judas’ but he wants us like Judas to confront what is really there. Interestingly when Judas saw what was really there his self-centeredness he continued to justify and tried to give the money back and being discouraged in that hung himself. Showing once more his self-centerness. Had he really faced the problem He would have declared himself a chief sinner and fell at foot of the cross begging mercy and forgiveness. EdB |
