Bible Question:
How can preachers preach that Jesus deid on friday and rose on sunday thats not three days and three nights |
Bible Answer: The Church has missed this one for years because it either doesn't have or want an understanding of it's Jewish roots. The main area of confusion comes from thinking that the day of preparation was Friday, for a Saturday "Sabbath" when in fact there were special "sabbaths" that were not Saturday. and days of preparation that were days before a special Feast such as Passover. As Jesus said in Matt. 12:40 "As Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale, so will the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." So Jesus had to have been executed on Thursday at the earliest to have been in the belly of the earth for three days and three nights. It could have been as early as Wednesday because one day ended and another day started at sunset in those days. I know this to be true because my Savior is not a liar. As you have noted a Friday death only puts him in the belly of the earth for at the most two days and two nights. |
