Bible Question: Isn't gambling a sin?? And...Are scratch tickets considered gambling?? I need help with this, my husband and I are finding possible sins within our church and this one was found. I cannot find anything in the bible under gamble or gambling, so I need some help, before we bring it to our pastors attention. Thanks so much. May your ministering be blessed. By His Grace, Lyn |
Bible Answer: I am not sure of any specific verses on gambling, (sure scratch tickets are gambling) but sometimes we have to look at God's principles that are clearly stated. First we are to look to Him for ALL our needs. "And He shall supply all our needs according to His riches in glory through Christ Jesus" (may not be a direct quote..but close) When we look to a lottery for financial support, we are not looking in the right direction. Second, although you and your husband are to be commended on choosing carefully where you worship, you are never going to find a church that is 'sin-free'. You can become distracted from corporate worship if you are busy looking for sin in others...you will always find it but it doesn't help your worshipful attitude. I don't mean to be harsh, but have a lot of experience on how this can damage a church and the members. If the church is sound in doctrine and the pastor is preaching God's Word, God will convict the people of sin in their life. It is a matter of prayer and loveing the sinner. If, on the other hand, this is a problem that is causing the church to suffer, there are ways to confront the offender. Check it out...it's in the Bible. This is a very sensitive issue and more harm than good can be done if not carried out as stated in Scripture |
