Bible Note: John, I agree on the paradox. Paradox and ambiguity is part of makes the bible so believable, ironically. And I like what the Scottish lady said, with one reservation. When my friend was dying in great pain I asked his wife how she remained so collected and sane. She said it had to be the Lord and that she just believed His promises, i.e. not to worry for tomorrow, those who mourn will be comforted, trust in the Lord with all your heart... She said it's not about feeling but fact, trusting in the fact of His promises. I like the King James for this verse: "Faith is the substance of things hoped for..." (Heb 11.1). Substance. Colin |
