NASB | Matthew 24:20 "But pray that your flight will not be in the winter, or on a Sabbath. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 24:20 "Pray that your flight [from persecution and suffering] will not be in winter, or on a Sabbath [when Jewish laws prohibit travel]. |
Bible Question: In light of the New Covenant, why would travel on the Sabbath be one thing that would be hard? |
Bible Answer: retxar, I think it helps to note that many Jewish Christians up until the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. were still observing many of the laws or practices of the Old Covenant as indicated in various plces in the book of Acts. According to the preterist interpretation of many apocolyptic verses, these prophecies were fulfilled in the siege and destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans. Which does not preclude a further fulfillment at the end of this age. Perhaps others will have additional input on this interesting question. Emmaus |
