NASB | Matthew 20:23 He *said to them, "My cup you shall drink; but to sit on My right and on My left, this is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by My Father." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 20:23 He said to them, "You will drink My cup [of suffering]; but to sit on My right and on My left this is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by My Father." |
Bible Question: KJV...why is being baptized ommitted in other versions?...And he saith unto them,Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with:but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father...this verse shows me that there is something that the deciples were going to recieve that the Lord had...and I do not think he was speaking of water baptism as this had already been done...and if it is as I am thinking then it would be speaking of the Spiritual Baptism, like in 1Cor 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body...For Jesus and the Father And the Spirit were all in one Body...God Bless |
Bible Answer: Hi Christian7, You have an excellent post here. I too, believe that the phrase "and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with," should be included in the NASB. This phrase would be an excellent companion for the passage in 1 Corinthians. I would choose, however, the phrase in verse 11, "But one and the same Spirit works all these things." I give your thoughts a hearty Amen. From the heart, Ray |
