NASB | Matthew 2:16 ¶ Then when Herod saw that he had been tricked by the magi, he became very enraged, and sent and slew all the male children who were in Bethlehem and all its vicinity, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the magi. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 2:16 ¶ Then Herod, when he realized that he had been tricked by the magi, was extremely angry, and he sent [soldiers] and put to death all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that area who were two years old and under, according to the date which he had learned from the magi. |
Bible Question: How old was Jesus when the Magi presented gifts to him? I'm finding conflicting stories in Matthew 2 and Luke 2 and from my pastor who insists Jesus was two. I'm trying to write a story about this and I'd like to get my facts straight. |
Bible Answer: Greetings Songbirdca! According to Matthew 2:16, Jesus had to be under the age of two or at the very oldest at the age of two, when the Magi paid Him a visit. It quite possibly could have occurred within the span of six months (the age difference between John the Baptist [Luke 1:36] and Jesus) that Jesus was still 2 years of age and John the Baptist had just exceeded the age of 2, so that John the Baptist would be "protected" and Jesus would still be in danger, even though John was "already" protected because he did not happen to live in Bethlehem at this time. Blessings to you, Makarios |
