Bible Question:
In Genesis magicians and wise men are apperantly used about those who preformed magic spells. How is the word "Magi" to be understood in Matt. 2:1 |
Bible Answer: Greetings Tryggvi! Historically, Magi were astrologers from the royal court of the king of Persia. They are often thought to be either astrologers or Zoroastrians. However, there is an even more interesting possibility. Who taught or had influence over the Magi in the Old Testament? Daniel did! Thus, I believe that these were descendents of those who had served with or under Daniel. They may have even been beleivers in Yahweh. This would explain why they worshipped Christ when they found Him. Or, they may have just remembered bits and pieces of the lore passed down to them and came for the wrong reasons. This would explain why they had to inquire about the prophecies. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
