Bible Answer: Hi, Mess46! It is sad that many claim to be Christians (in fellowship with Christ) yet they refuse to obey Christ's Commands! I do not know what is in the mind and hearts of these people you have described... whatever it is not humility and obedience to Christ: Matthew 5:27-28 Adultery "You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery.' But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Matthew 5:31-32 Divorce "It has been said, 'Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.' But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery. Matthew 19:3-9 Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?" "Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female,' and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'? So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." "Why then," they asked, "did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?" Jesus replied, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery." Clearly, Jesus condemns adultery and the He holds any union a product of such sin just as adulterous! There is no excuse for these people, the Word condemns their past and present actions! I can only tell you that you, if you did not partake of their sin or retaliated by you yourself committing adultery, are free and clear of these people... you may forgive their trespass against you but you have no obligations beyond that. The second that your ex-husband committed adultery he dissolved your marriage and thus any responsibilities that you may have had with him. God Bless! Angel |
