Bible Note: Let it be noted that to this web site I came, I saw, but I was not conquered nor captivated by its teachings. In the first place, I made it my business to read the bio of the author of the article on marriage and divorce. He's a man who, so it is said in the bio, combines a knowledge of the Old and New Testaments with his own personal revelation from God. When I read or hear anyone say anything of the sort, my mind shuts down to anything else they may have to say on religious subjects. That's Reason No. 1 why I view this web site as hogwash. Reason No. 2 is superfluous in light of Reason No. 1, but here it is anyway: It boils down to this question, as Steve suggested in his post: Are we willing to accept what Hammurabi (or anyone else) says on marriage, in addition to, or even in place of, what God says on the subject? Likewise, on other subjects, viz., creation, is it Darwin or Genesis that we accept as true? On abortion and sexual perversions, is it the secular world view that we accept, or what God says? On issues on which the Bible plainly speaks, the Christian, if he is indeed regenerate and not Christian in name only, has no viable choice; or more accurately, he has already made his choice: to follow God and His word no matter what. It is what Christians view as standing firm in obedience to God, and the world views as bigotry and right-wing extremism. But there is really no other way, no middle ground, no compromise. It is, as Jesus laid it down, a matter of being for Him or against Him. He offers no other choice. --Hank |
