NASB | Matthew 19:6 "So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 19:6 "So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate." |
Bible Question:
What is meant by "let no man seperate". Is this 1) an instruction to courts (is this an instruction to everyone as a group or to each of us as an individual) 2) a specific instruction not to discourage an existing marriage (ie mind your own business) 3) an instruction that not only says not to discourage an existing marriage, but even further to encourage (and pray for and support) |
Bible Answer: As I interpret this passage, I'd say that all of your points are included in its definition. Human beings either act in concert or individually. This passage says let no man (Greek antrhopos) put distance between (i.e., divide, separate) what God has conjoined (i.e., united, brought into oneness). Any time we get in the way of what God is doing, we are on dangerous ground. However, any time we affirm and support what He is doing, we walk in His will. This is, essentially, submitting to Him as Lord. |
