Bible Question:
I have seen that divorce is restricted to adultery and desertion. What about a Christian woman who is physically and emotionally abused and tortured throughout her marriage, can she divorce and later remarry? I think that remarrying should be allowed (especially if it is not her fault that they have divorced) because marriage helps one to be stable in life and to keep to one partner. Sometimes divorce may lead people to begin to live in secret sin because they are forbidden to remarry. dalipat |
Bible Answer: You have not seen that adultery or desertion is a ground for divorce. Divorce was permitted by Moses if a husband discovered that his bride had lied in making him believe she was a virgin. Forgiveness was suggested but divorce was allowed. Abuse is reason for separation, but not grounds for divorce. Counseling and reconciliation are recommended. Divorce is not. |
