Bible Question:
How does any Homosexual believe they are living by GOD's will when it is clear in GOD's word that it is against HIS will? and here is just a few places in HIS word that say's it is against HIS will: Lev. 18:22 ; 20:13 1 Corin. 6:9-10 Deut. 23:17-18 |
Bible Answer: Mary, this is your first post and may I welcome you! In this response to your question, I chose the Scripture reference of Matthew 19:4,5. Our Lord is, of course, quoting the well-known Genesis passage, 2:24. I cite this Scripture for a particular reason. I want to tell you a story. Some years ago I was serving as an elder in a certain church the general assembly of which had called for a vote from its presbyteries on whether to accept practicing homosexuals as ordained ministers and elders in that denomination. (I have long since disavowed my membership in that church and that denomination). The church was deeply divided on the issue and the schism gave birth to what could be described as bitter debates carried on in the atmosphere of a heated political campaign. Those taking a stand on one side of the issue were pitted against those who took the other. During this raging political campaign there came a woman from a sister church to visit the session (board of elders) on which I sat as a member. She was a spokesperson for the side that favored knocking down centuries-old bars and permitting practicing homosexuals to serve as ordained ministers, elders, and deacons. As the meeting opened, she took the podium to address us members of the session and quickly declared herself to be a practicing lesbian. I perceived her tone as being rather arrogant and, I thought, in her admission of being lesbian, she actually seemed proud of the fact. Then she handed out for each of us session members a piece of paper and invited us to read every word that Jesus ever said against homosexuality. The paper was blank. It was her way of trying to dramatize her point of view, I suppose, and judging from her smug grin and condescending attitude, it was obvious to me that she was enjoying her little "shock effect" enormously. Well, I thought it ludricous then, and think it ludricious still, that anyone would be so bold to suggest, as she did, that Jesus sanctions homosexuality. His reply to the Pharisees in the opening verses of Matthew 19, although He gave it in response to their question about divorce, clearly reveals Jesus' sanction of the permanent union of male and female in a marital relationship. This woman's argument that Jesus' silence on the specific subject of homosexuality proves that Jesus did not condemn it but sanctioned it is absurd in itself; but it is made even more ridiculous by the fact that one of the cardinal articles of faith of the very denomination which she was seeking to pollute with her ideas states that the Scriptures are the sole source of faith and practice. And the Scriptures, some passages of which you have cited in your post, clearly condemn homosexual practices. One can only conclude that homosexuals who, like this woman, believe that they are living by God's will and word, are deluding themselves. Some possible explanations of why they cling to a lie and attempt to justify their behavoir are that they do not take God's word seriously, they deceive themselves through rationalization, they are blinded to the truth, they believe the lie that they have a "defective gene" and cannot help being the way they are (the "God made me this way" alibi) or that they labor under the delusion that God approves any relationship as long as the parties to the relationship are loving and loyal to one another. An honest reading of the word of God shows that beyond question all of these alibis and excuses utterly fail to measure up to the inviolable biblical standards for human moral conduct. --Hank |
