Bible Question:
How does one reconcile John 8:31, 1 John 3:9, 1 John 5:18, Job 17:9, etc. (I. E. the Doctrine of the Perseverance of the Saints) , with Matthew 18:22? If a brother sins day after day, after day, times without number, doesn't that constitute "continuing in sin"? Shawn Lam. 3:22-23 |
Bible Answer: In Matthew 18:22 we are told to continue to forgive our brother ... Baptistbred, God's day to you. It doesn't say day after day ... and we will continue to forgive, if we are His disciples (John 8:31). Let me insert that we are not to keep an account (1 Cor 13:5). 1 John 3:9 does say, "No one who is born of God practices sin" ... we do not judge if one "practices sin" ... but they need forgiveness. While 1 John 5:18 sayys "We know that no one who is born of God sins" ... I think that is the sin to death (vs 16). Job 17:9 is also true. Searcher |
