Bible Question: Is excommunication from the church applicable for today? |
Bible Answer: Nolan Look if you don't want to talk to me okay, just say so, you don't have to excommunicate me! ;-) To answer your question yes Excommunication is applicable for today, but I think its effectiveness has been severely weakened. At one time people were known but what church they attended, it was a describing quality about them, they carried it with pride. Today it has moved to material objects. When I was a young (in the dark ages) a man was described by, “you know Nolan he attends the Brethren church, the nice guy you know Nolan” Later it became, “you know Nolan he has those three fine young boys that run around here and that lovely wife.” To day it is, “you know Nolan he drives that sharp Yugo” :-0 I think to excommunicate someone from the church today would have little effect on most. In fact it would probably end up causing a church split. |
