AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 18:17 "If he pays no attention to them [refusing to listen and obey], tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile (unbeliever) and a tax collector. [Lev 19:17; Deut 19:15] |
Bible Question: If a person rejects your suggestions about their moral conduct, should you pull away from them. Is there a scripture to back that decision up? |
Bible Answer: Hi, Flowerlady! Every time that we commit a sin, we sin both against God and the Church (Christianity)... Jesus is clear in his command of how to deal with the wayward sibling: "If your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that 'every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.' If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector. (Matthew 18:15-17) This of course does not make us judge and jury over others (Matthew 7:1-5; Luke 6:38-39)... we must evangelize and preach through example! (1 Corinthians 14:12; 1 Thessalonians 5:11) So when facing a situation where we find error in our brother/sister we must first go to that person in a humble and loving manner... some times people are being lead astray by Satan, who has convinced them that they are not doing anything wrong (Eve) or is blinding them with pride (rejecting God's Call to obedience and reform!), so our first task is to bring him/her back to the Fold (Jesus)--not by enabling him/her (don't worry it's OK...) but by offering loving counsel through our living example! (2 Timothy 3:16; James 1:19-22) God Bless! Angel |
