Bible Question:
Why when Peter is called Satan and the Satan used in rev 20:7 is translated the same? WHY is it the same? 7And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison. 4567. Satana" Satanas, sat-an-as; of Chald. or. corresp. to 4566 (with the def. aff.); the accuser |
Bible Answer: Hi! When we look at the text surrounding both statements we find that Peter is not Satan (Satan is the ancient Serpent, the Dragon, the Beast, the anti-Christ); while, Peter, a man who just minutes earlier allowed the Father to reveal to him the Truth about Jesus, being led by the carnal wisdom is called Satan by Jesus Christ, only to demonstrate who Peter was listening to at that particular moment. It is not that Peter is Satan... Jesus clearly stated that there was only one of the twelve that was lost (the son of perdition) because he would perform the hideous duty of betraying the Lord (John 6:70-71). Further evidence of Peter not being Satan is Jesus delegation to him: "Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers." (Luke 22:31-32) When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?" "Yes, Lord," he said, "you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my lambs." Again Jesus said, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me?" He answered, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Take care of my sheep." The third time he said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you." (John 21:15-17) God Bless! Angel |
