Bible Question:
Where does the belief that Peter will be at the gates of heaven to qualify or dis-quailfy those who want to enter? Where did this originate? retxar |
Bible Answer: Dear retxar, Greetings in Jesus' name! "And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades shall not overpower it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." Matthew 16:18,19 NASB. I, personally do not think that Peter 'stands at the gate,' but many traditions say so, and the thought has become ubiquitous. Basically, this kind of thinking is in line with worshipping or beatifying Peter and other apostles. In Christ Jesus, charis |
