Bible Question: Why Do u think Jesus used the phrase the son of man in Matt 16:13 |
Bible Answer: Hi! It is an interesting situation... there are quite a few verses in the Gospels where Jesus calls Himself the Son of man... while the same cannot be said of the "Son of God" since most of these verses it is not Him but others who are calling Jesus the Son of God... another notable incident is that Jesus had no biological father since His body was conceived through the Power of the Holy Spirit! ...Jesus is being true to the prophets and their prophecies that promised that Yahweh, the Lord, will come to His people as the Emmanuel (God-with-us) and would rule as the Eternal King on David's throne! Jesus is emphasizing his incarnation (the Creator who became as one of His creatures) by calling Himself the Son of man--it is the means to substantiate past and future Scripture that will reference both His Divinity and humanity.
